Could These Cities Become a Pot of Gold for Real Estate Investors?

When it comes to top tier cities in real estate, many may automatically think of places such as New York or London. But lately, real estate investors have been spreading their wings and looking at alternative locations.

Currently, the five cities that account for 40 percent or $2.2 trillion of all global ultra-high wealth real estate investment are London, New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and Moscow. However, according to a report conducted by Candy & Candy and Savills and Deutsche Asset & Wealth, there are 12 cities across the globethat may give real estate investors a better return in the near future.

The 12 cities named ranged across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas, and included both developed and developing world cities, such as Tel Aviv and Chennai, Panama City and Beirut.

So what makes these 12 cities so attractive? According to the report, most of the cities have the following:

  • English as a first  or second language (enabling global business to be done more easily)
  • The presence of a large, young and well-educated population
  • The associated presence of new tech industries
  • Strength as a cultural center and the presence of arts facilities and amenities
  • The presence of greenery or outstanding environment
  • Architectural and urban historical heritage
  • Openness to visitors
  • Favorable conditions for international companies
  • Presence of finance centers
  • Presence  of water: rivers, lakes, shoreline

Chennai is the cheapest of the 12 cities listed, with a two-bed apartment in the best part of town setting you a back a mere $160,000. At the other end of the ladder is Tel Aviv, where similar accommodation will cost $1.45 million. Those interested in a middle-tier option might look to Beirut, where an apartment now costs $500,000.
